For all my painting family:

It's just past Labor Day and fall is around the corner. In everyones' life a fall will appear and realizing this, my fall is here. October will be my 50th year anniversary in decorative painting.

When decorative painting came into my life, it was called "tole painting" and the only medium that was available was oils. Some of my most precious memories from those years so long ago include classes with teachers that are no longer with us. Barb Watson, Peggy Hobbs, Pat Clark to name a few as well as some fantastic teachers that are still with us Mary Jo Leisure, Jo Sonja, Sherry Nelson, Donna Bryant Waterson, Brenda Stewart and Priscilla Hauser. And then on into acrylics, which believe me, took a long time to get comfortable with. Amazing teachers Helen Jeglic, Jean Myers and Shirley Wilson, Mary Jane Todd, and Della Wetterman and so so many more. All of these teachers, icons in the industry, have contributed to my art journey and made me the designer and teacher that I am today. WOW, 50 years of decorative painting and the journey still continues. Truth be known, I love it just as much today as I did those many years ago.

Always strive to do better and to try to learn something new, not to become comfortable staying in your comfort zone. You cannot grow unless you leave that comfort zone and try something new, something different. Decorative painting involves so many different areas of art now. It's not just oils or acrylics anymore, the styles and mediums are endless. Try a ZOOM class or go to a convention. If you haven't picked up a brush in a long time, maybe it's time to dig them out and start again. Make some new memories as well as artwork. Enjoy YOUR season, spring - summer - fall or winter and make those memories that will last forever.
